Surfaces
More than a finish, a Mardegan Legno surface is an expression of craftsmanship, shaped by hand, guided by tradition and designed to be felt as much as it is seen.
Each board is individually worked using time-honoured artisan techniques, creating surfaces rich in movement, depth and character. From softly brushed textures to sculpted, worn and hand-planed finishes, every detail reveals the human touch behind the material.
This is where Mardegan Legno sets itself apart.
Our surface treatments are not applied as a process, but crafted as an art form transforming timber into an architectural element with warmth, nuance, and soul. The result is a sensory experience unlike anything traditionally associated with timber flooring: tactile, atmospheric, and deeply refined.
With 13 distinct surface preparations, over 150 colours, curated grades and custom gloss levels, each floor becomes entirely unique tailored to the architecture, the light and the feeling of a space.
Inspired by old-world craftsmanship and elevated through contemporary design, every Mardegan Legno floor carries the signature of the artisan behind it. A quiet luxury defined not by excess, but by authenticity, precision and timeless beauty.
The dragonfly, our emblem, is delicately marked onto every floor a symbol of elegance, artistry and the passion invested into every plank.
Hand smoothing to create “groove” effects along the top and edges of the board. This creates the pronounced three dimensional effect of a surface marked by the signs of time.
Rounded and irregular bevel on 4 sides.

A series of brushes remove a minimal part of the softest surface to emphasise the flames. Bevel on 4 sides.

Reserved exclusively for the Palatine collection, this process recreates the unique atmosphere of ancient noble palaces. Deep incisions run lightly along the piece, revealing the most intimate beauty of the wood.

Skilled craftsmen plane every single board by hand using blade planes. The surface comes to life, creating a play of volumes and movement on the floor. Bevel on 4 sides.

This is the most complex manual treatment, combining planing and ageing to reproduce the style of bygone days and the signs left by time. Bevel on 4 sides.

This exclusive manual process is performed by master craftsmen using chisel blade planes. The result is an evocative interweaving between the marks left by the sculpting and the grain of each individual board. Bevel on 4 sides.

In addition to hand planing, the long sides of the boards are also rounded manually to give the floor an attractive “wave” effect.

The wave effect on the long side of the boards gives the surface a three-dimensional effect, while sandblasting emphasises the naturalness of the wood grain. Bevel on 4 sides.

This very high pressure process removes the softest fiber of the wood, creating the effect of a surface marked by the signs of time. Bevel on 4 sides.

This surface treatment on 7.2 mm thick wood slat evokes the most ancient process of sawing. The marks left by the blade on the surface are then smoothed by hand. Bevel on 4 sides.

The 7.2 mm thick wood slat are sawn and sandblasted. The enhanced grain down the length of the board combines with the marks left by the sawing to create a geometric pattern exclusive to Mardegan Legno. Bevel on 4 sides.
